Rep. Issa Skips His Own McDonald’s Stunt in San Marcos
Congressman Darrell Issa was planning a political stunt to “work” at McDonald’s in San Marcos, CA for one whole hour today. He didn’t show — perhaps because about 80 or more people from Indivisible North County San Diego showed up for a rally!
Issa’s planned stunt follows his praise of then-candidate Trump (see post) for doing the same thing back in October, when Issa wrote that Trump “tells it like it is.”
Let’s talk about how “it is.”
- Unlike Issa — an oligarch who stole cars in his youth — I actually worked at McDonald’s in real life, in both high school and college. I know how hard it is to survive on low pay.
- Unlike Issa, who has repeatedly voted against raising the minimum wage, I’ve lobbied to raise it — because I care about improving outcomes for the working class.
- Unlike Issa, who once nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, I want to go to Congress to hold Trump accountable for his corruption and authoritarianism. That doesn’t involve imitating his cosplay stunts.
Update: Coverage of Issa’s McDonald’s No-Show
- Times of San Diego: “Rep. Issa, promising free McDonald’s fries at noon, dodges protesters in San Marcos.”
- KPBS: “Rep. Darrell Issa avoids protesters amid a McDonald’s appearance in San Marcos.”
